CCII Will Energise A Realistic Plan Of Action For Ibadan - Adeaga
The president General, Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes, Prince Oluyemi Adetayo Adeaga has re-affirmed the position of the organisation towards positioning Ibadan where it is supposed to be in the committee of nations.
Speaking during an interview, the oil magnet said a realistic plan will be energised to position Ibadan on a very high economic pedestal; he also spoke on sundry issues. Excerpts:
Q: His Excellency, Engr. Seyi Makinde has named Senator Lekan Balogun as the new Olubadan of Ibadan. How do you feel about this development?
A: It was not the governor that named the new Olubadan. It was the Olubadan in council that selected and appointed him and with that election, it was the beauty of the governor to approve of his election.
It may be wrong for us to say that the Governor appointed him but in essence, the governor has performed his statutory role and we appreciate that.
Q: What are your expectations from the new monarch?
A: Our expectations are human expectations; we want progress for Ibadan land and want him to facilitate foreign investment for Ibadan.
We want a more peaceful reign which will enhance social and economic development. We want him to use his influence, connections, God given talent, wisdom and everything that he has to develop Ibadan.
We want him to relate well with his subject, Olubadan in Council, Mogaji and he should reward whomever has had input into Ibadan Land and there should be a reward system at the end of compensation for those who have behaved negatively too.
Question: During the Jericho Businessmen Club, it was revealed that Ibadan is not where it supposed to be, what are your recommendations?
Answer: I cannot recommend now because I am already in the steam of action as a stakeholder in the participation of the economic agenda of Ibadan Land. I will not make a recommendation again but I can assure you that we are planning a comprehensive approach, an agenda for the review of what we have on ground.
Secondly, we intend to draw a new agenda and by the time we compound the two together, we can refine a better way of ensuring development for Ibadan Land.
That is how planning works; what you have on ground, where and what you have been doing and chat a new way forward, lay them out in a plan of action.
A realistic plan of action for all the players in the economic plan of action, that will play a role within that focus and they include the government at federal and state level.
Also other economic factors especially the industries, manufacturing sector we all have a role to play by monitoring and ensuring that things come up.
When we say Ibadan is not where it is supposed to be, it is only an indication that we are not satisfied with the level we are now and not necessarily because we are greedy but because we know things should be better than the way they are, so we look forward to have hundred years plan of action.
Q: During your presentation at the program, you expressed displeasure at the rate at which people engaged in ritual killing, do you have the intention at engaging the youth productively?
A: CCII can not provide employment because we are not employers of labour but just an umbrella body for all. Our sensations in Ibadan is to ensure that people play their part in the economic roles of the state.
One thing I can assure you is that we are promoting the interest of all economic factors and that will result in the employment of people but like it was revealed during the program, one thing is to have employment opportunities; another thing is to have employable people for such employment opportunities.
We are trying to groom youths for employability, competence in terms of morality and integrity; with this, there will be a lot of employment opportunities.
Then we are trying to open everybody's eyes to the new employment opportunities that are arising both locally and at disposal.
Q: Ibadan is very rich in cultural heritage, how do you intend to explore the various cultural heritages of the people to attract tourists?
A: It is one of our top priorities because our culture speaks volume about us. Our culture is a reflection of who you are as a people, and gives us acceptability to the outside world. If we don't promote our culture, what else do we have to promote?
Q: March 11 2022, Oba Balogun will receive the staff of office as the Olubadan of Ibadan. What are your recommendations to the monarch?
A: Kabiyesi will give us instructions on the policy direction to go but I can only say that when we are in the appropriate quarters, our suggestions to him rely essentially on his projection for Ibadan Land. According to the monarch, he said, Ibadan will become the economic capital of Africa and if that is our focus, all he wants to do is to build a lot of things around him that can make Ibadan become the capital of Africa.
Our advice - occasionally, our discussion will lay precedence to that claim that should be and when it ought to be. We would be using our intellect and connections, capability to ensure that we are able to achieve that during his lifetime.
